Three More Players Added to Heat’s 2020 NPSL Roster
Coach Powell Has High Praise for New Recruits

Laredo, TX (Wednesday, February 19, 2020) – Coach Powell and Coach Bonilla have been hard at work building their roster for the upcoming 2020 National Premier Soccer League (NSPL) season over the past few months and this week, the club is ready to announce three additional players that will call the Gateway City home this summer.

“I am very happy with the progress that both Coach Powell and Coach Bonilla have made thus far in the recruitment process”, said Heat Owner Shashi Vaswani.

“Soon, the organization and my Family will be introducing twenty plus players to the City of Laredo who will spend their summer representing our beloved city”.

Vaswani concluded, “As always, we will make sure all these players, when they return to their homes and their universities to continue with their college seasons, will be singing praises of our city and holding Laredo in high regard, a city they will call home for several months”.

“We know the type of player that is needed to compete in the NPSL’s Lone Star Conference and the type of player that can make a difference when it comes to making an impact well into the playoffs”, said Heat Head Coach John Powell.

“I feel these three young men, as well as our previous signed players, can make a difference immediately once they get to Laredo this summer”, commented Powell.

Outside/Center Back Gabriel Claudio is from Yuma, AZ and has played the past two seasons for NJCAA powerhouse Yavapai College in Arizona. Claudio was selected to the United Soccer Coaches All-West First Team in both seasons at Yavapai after two standout campaigns that him appear in and start in 38 total matches. In those games, Claudio scored 12 goals and added six assists. 

After completing his two years of junior college eligibility, Claudio will continue his college career at the University of Nevada – Las Vegas (UNLV), an NCAA Division I program.

Powell added, “One of the most versatile players I have ever seen, Gabriel is the exact player that we want in Laredo. He is technical, hardworking and gives everything he has every time he steps onto the pitch. Truth be told, I spent over a year recruiting Gabriel collegiately, but I am ecstatic to get the opportunity to work with him this summer”.

A Winger/Forward from Cork, Ireland, Ryan Goldsmith played his college ball at Division I California State University – Bakersfield. Goldsmith was a leader for the program the past two seasons and finished with 12 goals and nine assists.

“Ryan is an explosive attacking player with the ability to create and score goals, something he did frequently while playing for the Roadrunners and he has the big time experience and mentality to make an immediate impact for our organization and I cannot wait for him to arrive in Laredo”, mentioned Coach Powell.

Daniel Ortiz is a Midfielder/Forward from El Paso, TX that played collegiately at NCAA Division II powerhouse California State University – San Bernardino in 2017 and 2018 where he racked up 17 goals and 16 assists in 33 career matches.

After receiving All-CCAA Second Team honors in 2017 , Ortiz went on to score 11 goals with 14 assists in route to being named the CCAA Offensive Player of the Year in 2018. The accolades did not stop there as Ortiz was selected to the All-CCAA First Team, CCAA All-Tournament Team, All Far West Region Team and was named an All-American.

Powell added on Ortiz, “To add a player with Danny’s ability, desire and passion for the game excites my coaching staff and organization beyond explanation. Daniel is a proven goal scorer as he was one of the top attacking players in the CCAA and Division II for both seasons that he spent in Southern California. We are thrilled to bring Danny back to Texas”.

Gabriel Claudio:

"Siento que estos tres jóvenes, así como nuestros jugadores firmados anteriores, pueden marcar la diferencia de inmediato una vez que lleguen a Laredo este verano", comentó Powell.

El lateral / central Gabriel Claudio es de Yuma, AZ, y ha jugado las dos últimas temporadas para el poderoso Yavapai College de NJCAA en Arizona. Claudio fue seleccionado para el primer equipo All-West de United Soccer Coaches en ambas temporadas en Yavapai después de dos campañas destacadas en las que aparece y comienza en 38 partidos en total.
