Powell and Bonilla Return for 2021 NPSL Campaign to Lead the Laredo Heat Soccer Club
Laredo, TX (Monday, February 1, 2021) – With the National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) cancelling the 2020 Season due to the Covid-19 pandemic, it became one of many sports leagues around the world looking to 2021 as the best option to get back in the action.

The Laredo Heat, while devasted that it could not play as planned in 2020 understood the NPSL’s decision to protect it players, coaches, fans and member teams from the uncertainty of the pandemic and is now ready to take on the Lone Star Conference teams that are returning to the field this coming summer.

As of today, the NPSL has announced their conference alignments and they have informed their member teams that the 2021 Season is a go (within parameters and guidelines set by local municipalities).

For the 2021 NPSL Season, the Heat are excited to announce the return of Coach John Powell and Assistant Coach Roger Bonilla to lead the team into conference play and beyond. Currently, both Powell and Bonilla are coaching at Arizona Christian University located in Glendale, AZ.

“We never let up on our recruiting for the 2021 season and we are looking at bringing quality players this summer to play for us, I promise that the soccer will be entertaining and that the young men will represent themselves and the City of Laredo with class. In addition, the local talent will have the opportunity to showcase themselves at this higher level”, said Coach Bonilla.

Added Coach Powell, “After having to wait an additional year to coach the Laredo Heat due to the global pandemic, my coaching staff and I are even more determined to get back on the touchline and provide our fans with quality soccer”.

“While everyone in the soccer world was left disappointed last year by the decision to cancel the season, a decision that we still feel was in the best interest of the players, fans, organizations and communities as a whole, the excitement is back. My coaching staff and I have worked for over a year to continue to build relationships with the players that we have identified to have the drive, ability and mentality to make an impact for such a storied franchise”.

“As I mentioned last year, this opportunity afforded to Coach Bonilla and myself is a huge blessing from the Vaswani’s and the Heat organization, one that I plan on taking full advantage of. We have stood by our commitment to recruit, sign and select a team that will give everything they have when they step onto the pitch. The organization deserves it, the City of Laredo deserves it. We want to provide not only entertainment to our fans by playing attractive, compelling football, but our ultimate goal is to win games and compete for a National Championship.”

About the NPSL
The National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) is the successor to the Men's Premier Soccer League (MPSL), which was formed in 2002. The league started in the West Region with teams from the Northern California area. In 2005, the league expanded to a national format with the introduction of a Midwest region. The NPSL expanded further in 2007 by adding a Northeast region. In 2011, with the addition of a Southeast region, the National Premier Soccer League has truly become a nationwide league. In 2014, NPSL became the largest national soccer league in the US Soccer development pyramid with over 80 teams all over the country. Powell y Bonilla regresan para la campaña NPSL 2021 para liderar al Laredo Heat Soccer Club

Laredo, TX (lunes 1 de febrero de 2021) - Con la cancelación de la temporada 2020 de la National Premier Soccer League (NPSL) debido a la pandemia Covid-19, se convirtió en una de las muchas ligas deportivas de todo el mundo que miran al 2021 como la mejor opción para volver a la acción.

El Laredo Heat, aunque devastado por no poder jugar según lo planeado en 2020, entendió la decisión de la NPSL de proteger a sus jugadores, entrenadores, fanáticos y equipos miembros de la incertidumbre de la pandemia y ahora está listo para enfrentarse a los equipos de la Conferencia Lone Star que están volviendo al campo el próximo verano.

A partir de hoy, la NPSL ha anunciado sus alineaciones en la conferencia y han informado a sus equipos miembros que la temporada 2021 es un comienzo (dentro de los parámetros y pautas establecidos por los municipios locales).

Para la temporada 2021 de la NPSL, el Heat se complace en anunciar el regreso del entrenador John Powell y el entrenador asistente Roger Bonilla para llevar al equipo al juego de conferencias y más allá. Actualmente, tanto Powell como Bonilla están entrenando en la Universidad Cristiana de Arizona ubicada en Glendale, AZ.

“Nunca cesamos en nuestro reclutamiento para la temporada 2021 y estamos buscando traer jugadores de calidad este verano para jugar para nosotros, prometo que el fútbol será entretenido y que los jóvenes se representarán a sí mismos y a la Ciudad de Laredo con clase. Además, el talento local tendrá la oportunidad de mostrarse en este nivel superior”, dijo el entrenador Bonilla.

El entrenador Powell agregó: “Después de tener que esperar un año más para entrenar al Laredo Heat debido a la pandemia global, mi cuerpo técnico y yo estamos aún más decididos a volver a la línea de banda y brindar a nuestros fanáticos un fútbol de calidad”.

“Si bien todos en el mundo del fútbol quedaron decepcionados el año pasado por la decisión de cancelar la temporada, una decisión que todavía creemos que beneficia a los jugadores, fanáticos, organizaciones y comunidades en general, la emoción ha vuelto. Mi cuerpo técnico y yo hemos trabajado durante más de un año para seguir construyendo relaciones con los jugadores que hemos identificado que tienen el empuje, la capacidad y la mentalidad para generar un impacto en una franquicia de tanta historia”.

“Como mencioné el año pasado, esta oportunidad que se nos brinda al entrenador Bonilla ya mí es una gran bendición de parte de la familia Vaswani y de la organización del Heat, una que planeo aprovechar al máximo. Acerca de la NPSL
La Liga Nacional de Fútbol Premier (NPSL) es la sucesora de la Liga Premier de Fútbol Masculino (MPSL), que se formó en 2002.
