Heat forward Datner a finalist for NPSL Team of the Month

Laredo Heat SC forward Nadav Datner is a finalist for the NPSL Team of the Month for May.


Nadav Datner scored the first two goals for the Heat on Thursday increasing his team lead to five for the season.

Laredo Heat SC forward Nadav Datner is a finalist for the National Premier Soccer League Team of the Month awards for May voted on by the general public.

Each team submits one player for consideration, and the nominees compiled by the NPSL are the put up for a public vote. The team honors 11 players using a 3-4-3 format and a keeper.

A former Texas A&M International soccer player, Datner has excelled early in his return to the TAMIU Soccer Complex. He has scored five of the Heat’s nine goals during their 2-1-1 start. That includes the first two goals in last week’s 3-2 victory over the previously unbeaten Denton Diablos FC.

With the win over Denton (4-1-0, 12 points), Laredo is in the thick of the Lone Star Conference division race trailing the Diablos by five points while playing one fewer game. The Heat are also behind the Midland-Odessa Sockers FC (3-0-1, 10 points).

Laredo will have an opportunity to climb further in the standings when it returns to action June 17 on the road against the Sockers and travels two days later to face the Fort Worth Vaqueros (0-4-0, 0 ponts)

Anyone interested in voting for the Team of the Month can visit npsl.com/totm. Voting closes Wednesday, June 9. Datner is one of 14 forwards vying for three spots on the team. Also representing the Lone Star Conference at forward are Irving FC’s Joe Conway and Midland-Odessa’s Alonso Rodriguez. The division also has Katy 1895 FC midfielder Josh Moore, Denton Diablos FC defender James Doyle and FC Brownsville defender Juan Ibarra.
