The trio of Laredo Heat SC players named Thursday to the National Premier Soccer League 2021 Conference XI Selections for the Lone Star Conference are now up for the West Region XI awards decided by fan vote.

The Heat players up for the awards are forward Nadav Datner, midfielder Oscar Govea and goalkeeper Gage Rogers. They helped Laredo go 8-1-1 in the regular season and open the playoffs with a 3-0 win at home over the Midland-Odessa Sockers FC before losing 3-1 in the Lone Star Conference Finals at the Denton Diablos FC.

Rogers had a heavy hand in the Heat’s defensive effort as it led the conference with an average of only a goal allowed per game throughout the regular season. The clean sheet in the playoff opener was the fourth in a span of five games and was the fifth of the season overall.

Laredo backed up that No. 1 defense with the No. 2 offense by averaging 2.7 goals in the regular season. Datner scored a third of those goals and assisted on several others, and he finished with 10 goals in 12 games. His effort earned him a spot on the NPSL Team of the Month for June after also being nominated in May. Govea was also crucial to the offensive and defensive effort including assisting on a goal in the playoff opener.

Rogers is one of two goalkeepers nominated. Datner is one of six forwards vying for three spots, and Govea is in a group of eight midfielders competing for four spots.
