Laredo Heat SC midfielder Oscar Govea is representing Sacramento State on the Big West Preseason All-Conference Team.
Laredo Heat SC midfielder Oscar Govea was announced this week as a member of the 2021 Big West Preseason All-Conference Team heading into his junior year at Sacramento State.
Govea was a key part of the Heat’s offensive and defensive efforts this summer including assisting on a goal in a 3-0 victory over the Midland-Odessa Sockers FC in the playoff opener. He helped the team rank as the top defense and No. 2 offense in its division allowing only a goal per game during a 7-1-2 regular season while averaging 2.7 goals. Laredo posted its fifth clean sheet of the season in the playoff opener as it advanced to the Lone Star Conference championship game.
Govea excelled for the Hornets during a 7-9-2 campaign in 2019 as he led the team with 12 points while appearing in 15 of the 18 matches with 14 starts. He tied for the team lead with four goals including a team-high two game winners. He was also second in assists with four. His goals and assists were both career highs, and so were his 29 shots and nine shots on goal.
Sacramento State was picked to finish sixth in the 10-team Big West. Govea and the Hornets open the season Thursday, Aug. 26 with a 7 p.m. game at San Francisco.
