The Laredo Heat SC’s U21 team in the Women’s Professional Soccer League took care of business in its inaugural game Saturday picking up a 4-2 victory on the road over the FC Corinthians of San Antonio.
The Heat are an all-local squad with every player coming from Laredo.

“It is a thrill to see this program get off the ground, and we are so proud of them for opening with a commanding victory,” Laredo Heat SC Vice President and co-owner Priya Vaswani said. “To have a team of all-local women come together so quickly and perform so well as a team is exciting. I can’t wait to see what they do going forward.”

Laredo was led early on by a first-half brace from Karina Navarro. She scored her first goal off a rebound, and she added another off a steal.

Kimberly Paredes delivered the winning goal in the second half as she scored off an assist from Katherine Delgadillo on the left wing. Defense continued to pave the way from offense late as Priscilla Carrillo added an insurance goal off a steal to round out the scoring.

“I’m really proud of the girls,” Heat head coach Fabian Arciga said. “I’m really proud of their performance. I’m grateful we won the first game. We started on the right foot. It’s a good thing for us.”

The Heat have three weeks to prepare for their next game as they travel to take on the Austin Roots FC on June 5. They play their final road game June 8 against the SA Blossoms, and Laredo will host its home opener at 6 p.m. June 18 at Laredo College against the Houston Futsal Soccer FC.
