Road trip to Brownsville postponed to July 6

Saturday’s road game for the Laredo Heat SC has been rescheduled in a change announced Friday.

The matchup scheduled for 7:15 p.m. Saturday on the road against the FC Brownsville Explorers will now be played at the same time on July 6.

The Heat were previously scheduled to host the Corinthians SC of San Antonio on July 6 to close out the regular season. That matchup has been moved to July 9 at 8 p.m. at the TAMIU Soccer Complex.

Laredo has five games remaining in the regular season. Its next match will now be at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 23 on the road against the Denton Diablos. The Heat also travel June 25 for a 7:30 p.m. game against the Fort Worth Vaqueros before returning home to host the CF10 Houston FC at 8 p.m. June 29 at the TAMIU Soccer Complex.

At 5-1-1 with 16 points, the Heat continue to control their destiny in the race for the No. 1 seed in the Lone Star Conference. They trail only San Antonio (7-0-2, 23 points) in the standings, while Denton (4-1-1, 13 points), Brownsville (5-3-0, 15 points) and Irving (3-1-4, 13 points) remain in the hunt. Winning out would guarantee the top spot, and winning at least three matches would assure a playoff spot unless multiple teams went unbeaten and had drastic shifts in their goal differential.
