The Laredo Heat continued their hot start to the regular season on Wednesday with a 1-1 home draw against FC Brownsville at the TAMIU Soccer Complex.

Kazuki Hashimoto scored his first goal of the season for Laredo and the only goal of the game for the Heat with an incredible chip shot from 30 yards away that found the top corner.

Heat goalkeeper Spencer King made three saves in his second start of the season. Laredo outshot Brownsville 6-5 and held a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Laredo continues the regular season with back-to-back road games beginning Saturday night against San Antonio Corinthians FC and continuing with a rematch at FC Brownsville on June 3.

Despite dropping points for the first time this season, the Heat remain atop the NPSL Lone Star conference with seven points through three games and a +9 goal differential.

It took less than one minute for FC Brownsville to make its presence felt as a header from a free kick sailed just over the crossbar.

But less than three minutes later, Denis Herrera took possession near midfield and picked out a wide-open Hashimoto on the other side of the field. From there, Hashimoto took two touches and launched a rainbow that will undoubtedly be up for Goal of the Season.

Herrera almost got on the scoresheet himself in the 27th minute, but the Brownsville keeper made a close-range stop.

FC Brownsville started to sustain some pressure nearly a half hour into the second half and finally broke through in the 75th minute when they poked in a cross that wasn’t cleared from the Laredo box.

Laredo had a few good looks at a winner in stoppage time when Deni Cresto sent in a free kick and back-to-back corners, but the Heat couldn’t find the back of the net.
