Heat Set to Register 16-Year-Old Academy Product to USL2 Team

Local Player Has Developed with Heat Youth System Since the 2018/2019 Play Season

Wednesday, April 9, 2025 (Laredo, TX) – The Laredo Heat Soccer Club announced today that they have registered Laredo native and midfielder Asael Montoya for the upcoming USL2 Summer Season. At 16 years, five months, Montoya is the youngest player that the Heat Senior Team has registered to play in its 20 plus year history.

Over the last year, Montoya has played and excelled with the Heat U23’s, members of the United Premier Soccer League under the direction of the Heat’s Youth Club’s Director of Coaching Fabian Arciga, this experience has matured Montoya and has put him in pressure situations where he has excelled and caught the eye of Coach Johnny Ibarra, who also coached him with the Heat’s Under 16 team last play season.

“Asael has demonstrated an excellent work ethic as a member of the Heat U23’s, he has earned his starting position and he works hard to keep it, something every coach looks for in young players”, said Arciga.

“We are looking forward seeing Asael this summer on the field and see his playing maturity improve, he has a bright future, and we’ll see where his talent takes him in the future”, concluded Arciga

 “Getting the opportunity to practice and earn a spot with our USL2 side is exciting and I am grateful for the opportunity the club has presented to me, and I would like to thank my family, coaches and teammates who have helped me improve over the years and supported me along the way”, said Montoya.

The young midfielder has earned several awards on the field as both a member of the Laredo Heat and United High School where he plays several positions on the field.
