Game Recap: Laredo Tops AC Houston Sur Saturday Night to Wrap Up the Weekend in the Bayou City
Successful “Business Trip” Gets the Heat to (6-0-0, 18 Points)
Sunday, June 8, 2025 (Laredo, TX): The Laredo Heat SC completed a dominant road trip to Houston with a second straight clean sheet Saturday winning 2-0 at AC Houston Sur to stay perfect at the halfway point of the regular season.
The Heat (6-0-0, 18 points) improved their standing atop the table in the USL League 2’s Lone Star Division with a 4-point lead over the closest competitor. The AHFC Royals (4-0-2, 14 points) are the only other team without a loss, but they dropped points for the second time Saturday in a scoreless draw against Corpus Christi FC (2-1-2, 8 points).
Laredo is one of only five perfect teams remaining in the 143-team USL2. It is joined by the Northwest Division’s Ballard FC (5-0-0, 15 points), the South Central Division’s Asheville City SC (4-0-0, 12 points) and the Southwest Division’s FC Tucson (4-0-0, 12 points) and Ventura County Fusion (3-0-0, 9 points). The Heat rank seventh in the league with a plus-13 goal differential.
Following a 2-0 victory Thursday at Houston FC (2-2-1, 7 points), Laredo recorded two shutouts in a span of three days. That lowered its goals against average to just 0.67 at the midway point of the season with four total goals allowed including one own goal. Keeper Marc Bonnaire started the first five matches, and Ioannis Koupepides made his debut Saturday.
Kai Louviere had a productive road trip with three goals in two matches. On Thursday, he scored twice in a span of just 1:42 in the first half. He found early success again Saturday putting the Heat ahead 1-0 in the 14th minute.
Louviere is now tied for the team lead with four goals through six matches. He is tied with Ismael Mane, who kept pace with a goal in the 59th minute Saturday. After a steal in the offensive zone, Martin Piedeleu fed a through ball up the middle that left Mane alone with the keeper to set up his goal.
The Heat have scored multiple times in all six matches to rack up 17 goals at the halfway point of the regular season. While Louviere and Mane lead the way, it has been a balanced attack with two goals each from Elie Bokota and Volkan Celikkol and one each from Gael Gallegos, Adam Knutson, Vincent Montoya, Martin Piedeleu and Henox Hatzel Roque Pinson.
The Heat now return to Laredo for their first multi-game homestand of the season. They host a rematch with Houston FC at 8 p.m. Saturday, June 14 at PEG Energy Stadium before taking on Lonestar (2-2-0, 6 points) at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18.
