The Laredo Heat Announce Friendly Match Versus Cruz Azul’s U21 at PEG Energy Stadium
Local Soccer and Sports Fans Have the Opportunity to Catch Beloved Mexican Franchise Here at Home
Friday, June 13, 2025 (Laredo, TX): Following the first two-game homestand of the season, the Laredo Heat SC will gear up for even more excitement at PEG Energy Stadium as it welcomes the U21 side of Liga MX’s Cruz Azul for a friendly on Saturday, June 28.
The match is at 7:45 p.m. on June 28 at PEG Energy Stadium located at 5401 Bob Bullock Loop across from Laredo International Airport.
Based out of Mexico City, Cruz Azul was founded in 1927. Its highlights include winning nine league titles. The U21 squad finished third out of 18 teams last season, going 11-4-2 and ranking second with a plus-14 goal differential.
When the Heat planned for PEG Energy Stadium, there was an emphasis on maintaining high quality in many areas with an eye toward returning to days of hosting international friendlies and other big matches. That is why the field is within FIFA’s recommended dimensions at 115 by 75 yards along with installing Musco Lighting, Act Global’s Xtreme Turf, a Broc SP17 shock pad and more.
Having a FIFA-certified field allows for the possibility of inviting collegiate, professional and international teams. The Heat have previously hosted clubs such as the America, Chivas, Rayados and Tigres Sub 23 squads, which included hosting Javier “Chicharito” Hernández with Chivas.
“This is exactly the type of event we envisioned when we first began dreaming up what became PEG Energy Stadium,” Laredo Heat owner and president Shashi Vaswani said. “We emphasized FIFA standards in all aspects of the design of the facility both to give our city and our players the best possible product and to attract great matches like this. We are thrilled to welcome Cruz Azul to the Gateway City, and we look forward to seeing how our players stack up against them.”
Tickets will be available starting Monday, June 16, 2025 with general admission available for $10. There are also seats in sections 103 and 105 for $16, and midfield seats in section 104 are $22. Field level suites may also be available, and anyone interested can call for more information.
Prior to the friendly match, the Heat will attempt to improve on their perfect 6-0-0 first half of the USL League 2 season starting with a match Saturday, June 14 at 7:45 p.m. against Houston FC. Laredo also hosts Lonestar at 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, June 18 and travels to face Corpus Christi FC at 7 p.m. on June 21 before returning home to welcome Cruz Azul.
