By Zach Smith, 05/22/23, 3:00PM CDT

The Laredo Heat got the NPSL season started to a red-hot start with a dominating 3-0 win over the Central Texas Coyotes Saturday night at the TAMIU Soccer Complex.

Bence Molnar, Charlie Hare and Kenshin Uneo all scored to help the Heat move to the top of the NSPL Lonestar Conference standings

Canadian goalkeeper Spencer King made two saves to earn a clean sheet in his first game in Laredo.

The Heat dominated possession and finished with a 9-2 advantage in shots and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks.

Laredo continues the regular season next Saturday on the road against CF10 Houston FC in Katy. The Heat then returns to the TAMU Soccer Complex for a midweek game against FC Brownsville on Wednesday, May 24.

A cross in front of goal by Marvin Putu almost helped get the Heat on the board less than one minute into the game. Midfielder Andres Herrera’s long-range shot bounced off the crossbar in the 13th minute.

Midfielder Deni Cresto swung in a corner in the 23rd minute, but Kristian Colaci’s shot just missed the far post.

In the 43rd minute, a low cross from Herrera found Molnar in the center of the box. The Hungarian forward took one touch, turned and slammed home the first goal of the Laredo Heat season.

Three minutes later, Hare was unmarked on the far post, where he headed in the second goal off a corner from Cresto.

Uneo scored the final goal for the Heat in the 64th minute. The Japanese midfielder received the ball from Putu at the top of the box, took one touch and fired a rocket that bounced off the inside of the far post and in.

Laredo continued to apply pressure as the game went on. Colaci had a shot go just wide in the 68th minute and followed that up with another chance in the 83rd. Cresto hopped on the rebound, but his shot hit the post.
