Voting for NPSL honor is live through July 9

Laredo Heat SC midfielder Jordan Mase is a nominee for the National Premier Soccer League Team of the Month for June.

The NPSL Team of the Month recognizes one goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders and three forwards as each of the 95 teams are allowed to nominate one player, and from there a fan vote determines the honorees. Voting is live at npsl.com/totm and is available through Saturday, June 8.

Mase gives the Heat a chance to land a player on the team for the second straight month. Laredo captain and center back Lewis Wilson was selected in May’s honors after helping the team go 4-0-1 while outscoring opponents 16-2 in the month as he recorded three goals and an assist.

After suffering their only loss of the season on June 1, the Heat rolled off four straight victories the rest of the month to move back into first place in the Lone Star Conference. Mase played a big part in that effort throughout the month but especially in two of the games.

With Laredo dressing less than 18 players for the first time in a road trip to Denton, Mase recorded a brace in a 3-1 victory for his first two goals of the season. He picked up another brace in a 5-1 win over CF10 Houston FC and added an assist.

Mase and the Heat (8-1-2, 26 points) opened July with a 1-1 draw on the road against FC Brownsville (7-3-1, 22 points) on Wednesday. The result guaranteed a home match in the postseason opener, and it set up a battle for first place in the regular season finale.

Laredo hosts the Corinthians FC of San Antonio (7-2-2, 23 points) at 8 p.m. Saturday at the TAMIU Soccer Complex. A win or draw would earn the Heat outright possession of first place. A loss would leave the teams in a tie for first and would give San Antonio the No. 1 seed on tiebreakers. Tickets for Saturday’s decisive match are $5 for general admission and $20 for VIP, and children 12 and under get in free.
