Laredo Heat SC players Connor Durant, Lewis Wilson and Kristian Colaci are nominated for the Region XI awards, and voting is live at npsl.com/region-xi-voting/south through Wednesday, July 27.
Goalkeeper Connor Durant, defender Lewis Wilson and forward Kristian Colaci are in the running for the National Premier Soccer League Region XI awards in the South Region, and the fan vote is live through Wednesday, July 27.
The Conference XI awards voting is available at npsl.com/region-xi-voting/south to recognize a goalkeeper, three defenders, four midfielders, three forwards and a coach. The nominees earned their spot last week by being selected in the Conference XI awards.
Laredo finished 10-2-3 this season as it won the regular season and postseason titles in the Lone Star Conference and advanced to the regional semifinals.
The Heat featured the No. 1 defense in the entire NPSL led by Durant and Wilson. Durant played every minute of the 15 games this season and finished with more clean sheets (nine) than goals allowed (eight). Laredo’s 0.57 average goals allowed will finish atop the league even if the closest competitor, Tulsa, posts shutouts in its remaining rematches.
On top of the defensive dominance, Durant and Wilson also contributed to the offensive success. Along with both being instrumental to the breakout efforts all season, Wilson added three goals and two assists, and Durant had an assist.
Wilson served as Laredo’s captain this season and was an automatic nominee for the conference honors after being selected to the NPSL Team of the Month for May. Wilson and the defense did not allow a goal over the final 467 minutes of the season plus added time which included the entire 330 minutes of the postseason.
Colaci stood out among a balanced scoring attack with nine of the Heat’s 33 goals. He led the team by a wide margin as Roberto Ordonez was second with five goals, and Laredo’s goals came from 10 different players. Colaci also added a pair of assists.
The winners of the Region XI awards will advance as finalists for the National XI awards.
